AGORA Workshop at Contargo Wörth: Shaping the Future of Intermodal Terminals Together

The second AGORA Workshop 2026 brought together representatives of European terminal operators at Contargo Wörth to discuss current challenges and future developments in combined transport. A special thank you goes to Contargo for their warm hospitality and the valuable insights into terminal operations, including the VEGA regular handling concept.

This year’s key topics included:

• NIS2 / Critical Infrastructure (KRITIS) – What new cybersecurity and resilience requirements will intermodal terminals face in the future?
• Automation – How are remote crane operation, driver assistance systems and terminal automation evolving?
• Electrification – First operational experiences with electrically powered handling equipment, as well as the challenges of charging infrastructure and energy management.
• Energy Recovery – An increasingly important topic: How can terminal operators efficiently manage crane energy recuperation and feed electricity back into the public grid?

A further highlight was the visit to Daimler Truck’s CKD (Completely Knocked Down) Centre in Wörth. Participants gained fascinating insights into the logistics behind the worldwide shipment of truck assembly kits and the complex international and intermodal transport chains coordinated from Wörth.

The open exchange of experiences among AGORA members once again demonstrated that many challenges are shared across Europe. By working together, practical solutions can be developed more quickly and best practices can be exchanged more effectively.
