All eight Member States have now officially approved the second ScanMed Work Plan of the European Coordinator of the ScanMed Corridor, Mr. Pat Cox. The European Commission has asked KombiConsult to send this final version to the stakeholders.
The (2nd) Work Plan of the European Coordinator builds on "Elements of the Work Plan" report and includes political considerations of the Coordinator and the Commission. It is presented in Corridor Forum meetings by the Coordinator and discussed with the Member States. Its (draft) final version is formally delivered to the Member States for approval and is published only after that. Since the approval was provided it can be published, now.
The (Preliminary) Report on Elements of the Work Plan includes the technical findings of the study conducted by the team of consultants which is led by KombiConsult. It has been presented in Corridor Forum Meetings by the consultants. It is delivered to the Commission for approval.
Since this might be the last communication for the entire ScanMed corridor in 2016, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the cooperation, lively discussions and progress achieved to creating the best corridor.

As a result of the Round Tables carried out in the countries of Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia, and further stakeholder consultations, the Road Maps for the respective countries have been elaborated in the framework of the COSMOS Project:
Intermodal Road Map Czech Republic
The common learning action COSMOS was managed by KombiConsult from 2012 to 2014 and was co-funded by the EU in the framework of the Marco Polo programme. In June 2014 also the Final Conference of the COSMOS project took place. The presentations of the conference and other information on the project can be found here: www.intermodal-cosmos.eu.

A delegation headed by the president of the Bulgarian Cluster Green Freight Transport, Simeon Ananiev, and the COSMOS project partners have jointly discussed the challenges for the intermodal sector in Bulgaria in the Higher Transport University " Todor Kableshkov " Sofia on February 27, 2013.

It addresses issues such as intermodal transport for Europe, growth forecasts, market structures, business models and much more.

The 2010 Report on Combined Transport in Europe has just been published by UIC and its Combined Transport Group. This periodic publication, researched and prepared on behalf of UIC by KombiConsult and K&P Transport Consultants, is the third in the series (previous reports focused on the years 2005 and 2007).
It addresses issues such as
- growth forecasts for domestic and international combined transport
- market structures
- business models,
- market shares per traffic segment, etc.
It also attempts to quantify combined transport's contribution to the overall economy.

A high-frequency intermodal shuttle network in Germany can become a reality soon. Rainer Mertel, managing director of KombiConsult, recently presented the new concept on a chemical logistics congress in Leverkusen.
A PDF-file of an article by Jens Kohagen (specialized journalist), published in the DVZ, can be downloaded here (only in German).

As a benefit of the European Research project CREAM, about 950 mill. tkm will be shifted from road to rail on the corridor Rotterdam/Antwerp - Greece/Turkey in the current year. This is more than 400% than expected at the beginning of the project in 2007, explained the consulting companies in charge, HaCon and KombiConsult, on the final conference on 4 November 2010, in Brussels.
During the four years of the project, a total of 2,2 billion tkm were transported on rail on this corridor, additionally.
25 companies from 12 countries participated in CREAM, with the aim to increase the effectiveness of rail. This was achieved by e.g. the use of multisystem locos, shortened border crossing procedures, alternative routings via short sea, a train monitoring system with status quo information, and innovative technologies for carrying ordinary semi trailers in unaccompanied intermodal transport.
A detailed press release can be downloaded here.

CREAM has been going on for more than three years. In this period numerous organisational and technological solutions have been developed. Moreover, the project work in international teams generated benefits such as knowledge transfer, mutual cultural understanding and better cooperation!
These factors have led to remarkable service improvements. After the challenging economic situation in 2008/2009 the project achievements became effective by an increasing number of transports.
Presently the CREAM partners are able to offer a wide range of rail freight services on the corridor. This 6th issue of the CREAM Newsletter will provide you with an insight on these developments. Enjoy this newsletter and learn more about following topics:
- Duisburg-Rotterdam shuttle service expanded
- The intermodal string-of-pearls network, composed of the open intermodal rail services of the CREAM partners and their intermodal co-operation partners
- DB Schenker Rail establishes an intelligent block train operation concept on corridor
A PDF-file of this newsletter can be downloaded here.

In 2008, the „Agenda 2015 for Combined Transport in Europe" was published. The report highlighted the role and responsibilities of all actors in the chain in order to grow this business, but mainly focused on Central Europe. It was thus felt necessary to widen the geographic scope to carry out an in depth study of rail/road traffic in Central and Eastern European Countries.
The respective country reports can be downloaded here:
Evolution of intermodal rail/road traffic in Bulgaria by 2020
Evolution of intermodal rail/road traffic in Croatia by 2020
Evolution of intermodal rail/road traffic in Czech Republic by 2020
Evolution of intermodal rail/road traffic in Hungary by 2020
Evolution of intermodal rail/road traffic in Romania by 2020
Evolution of intermodal rail/road traffic in Slovakia by 2020
Evolution of intermodal rail/road traffic in Slovenia by 2020
A PDF-file of the Management Report can be downloaded here:

This report provides a precise description of the U.S. intermodal rail transportation industry, but also compares it with the European business in order to reveal best practices with benchmarking potential. In this respect it highlights practices and technologies that could be transferred or adopted by European intermodal actors, and points out to common challenges.
A PDF-file of the Report can be downloaded here.

On occasion of the transport logistic 2009 we present this 5th CREAM project newsletter. As announced in the last issue you find information on following main activities of CREAM project partners, which are all available at this trade fair for further explanations:
- Successful demonstration of Y-train system München - Ljubljana / Cervignagno by Lokomotion / SZ / RTC
- Multi-system loco started operation in new "CREAM - Moving Europe" design by Lokomotion / RTC / HaCon / KombiConsult
- Betuweroute line capacity increases continuously due to ongoing "volume strategy" by Keyrail
- Cost efficient train/wagon tracking with GPS and WPAN technology by Eureka
A PDF-file of this newsletter can also be downloaded here.

The future availability of CT wagons sufficient in number and quality had become a cause for concern.
We therefore decided to include a module focusing on wagons in the second phase of DIOMIS. We are delighted to present the results and conclusions of this investigation in this Report on Intermodal Rolling Stock in Europe 2005/2015. It shows that substantial efforts will also be needed in this field so that CT may respond to the projected demand.

In November 2006, when the Report on Combined Transport (CT) in Europe 2005 was published as part of the DIOMIS project, it has found approval of the intermodal industry. As it was intended to update this report every two years, we herewith present the 2008 edition to cover the situation of CT in 2007, with expanded sources and coverage.
Download the full report here. For more information about the follow-up DIOMIS II and some other reports, click here: http://www.uic.asso.fr/diomis

The 4th Project-Newsletter is now published. The main article of this newsletter informs about the successful start of a multimodal transport service between Turkey and Germany.

With the objective to support and promote the further enhancement of the intermodal industry and to convey to all stakeholders a vision of the evolution and growth potential of combined transport services, the UIC has set up the present AGENDA 2015 FOR COMBINED TRANSPORT IN EUROPE.
Agenda 2015 for Combined Transport in Europe is the concluding report of the DIOMIS study (developing infrastructure and operating models for intermodal shift) carried out by KombiConsult and K+P Transport Consultants under UIC guidance. It particularly suggests to both suppliers and customers of intermodal services strategies, actions and tools how this vision can be ensured and the way for a continuously stable growth of combined transport by the year 2015 and beyond paved.
All results of the DIOMIS study can also be found here: http://www.uic.asso.fr/diomis

This Newsletter is an official publication of the CREAM Project providing you with the latest information on the project work and important developments of the project partners such as changes in the company structure and new services.
